John Lee Robertson November 16, 1943 – December 30, 2024 John Lee Robertson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, at the age of 81. Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, John was a proud son of this city and a cornerstone of the South Louisville community. At the tender age of 14, John began his remarkable career at Churchill Downs, laying the foundation for what would become a lifelong dedication to the world of horse racing. His passion, expertise, and tireless work ethic made him a legendary figure at the iconic track, where his influence helped shape the sport he loved so deeply. John’s strength and resilience were evident early in life. After the passing of his mother, he helped provide for his four sisters by starting his racing career. He gave them the love, guidance, and support they needed to thrive. His selflessness and unwavering commitment to family became hallmarks of the man he was throughout his life. Beyond his professional achievements, John was a man of immense kindness, humility, and faith. He cherished time spent with his family, often sharing stories of his adventures and instilling values of hard work and perseverance. He was an anchor of love and wisdom for all who knew him. John was preceded in death by his parents Earline Jones and Sylvester Robertson , His sisters Sylvia Wheeler , Janice Drain, and Lynne Anderson. John is survived by his wife Diane Robertson , his children Kitito Robertson, Matthew Pipes , Carlos Grigsby Sr. ( Ruthie Grigsby) , Billy Bass , his grandchildren Kaelin Robertson, Kori Black Makiyah Pipes, Matthew Pipes jr , Malcolm Bell , Zyenn Pipes , Zynea Pipes, his sister Joyce Frierson (Phillip) and numerous nieces and nephews who adored him. His family, friends, and the South Louisville community will forever carry John’s memory in their hearts, honoring his legacy as a legendary horseman, a devoted brother and father, and a man of unwavering love and integrity. To honor his life and the impact he had on those around him a Memorial service will be held Saturday January 18th 2025 at N. Street Baptist Church 2914 South 6th Street. Louisville, KY 40208. Time: 1pm. Precious Memories Funeral Home had been entrusted with the arrangements.
